Why Movement Matters: Transforming Young Lives Through Sport

As I watch young athletes tumble across our gymnasium floor, I’m reminded daily of why I fell in love with teaching movement. Here in Munich, where concrete meets creativity, I’ve witnessed countless children transform from shy beginners into confident movers.

Last week, one of our young gymnasts faced the challenge of learning a back walkover. With guided steps and the right tools, she achieved it!


Building Confidence Through Back Walkovers


A prime example of our approach is how we teach back walkovers:

1. Foundation with a Bridge: We begin by helping children master the bridge position, ensuring they have the necessary flexibility and strength.

2. Introducing the Incline Mat: Using an incline (wedge) mat, children practice pushing themselves over from the bridge position. The slope assists in the movement, making it less daunting and more achievable.

3. Progressing to Flat Surfaces: Once confident, they transition to performing the back walkover on a flat surface, applying the skills they’ve built step by step.


This methodical progression not only teaches the skill but also builds self-assurance.
